Walking Distance
The Montserrat Apart Hotel is located in an area that provides a rich and walkable cross-section of Buenos Aires’ history and culture. The block itself is quiet, but just about ten minutes walking south, the heart of San Telmo can be found; this is known as the oldest barrio within the city. Cobbled streets lead all the way to Plaza Dorrego (about a 15-20 minute walk), where on Sundays, a now world-famous antiques fair takes over the square together with street tango dancers who create one of the most electric atmospheres in Buenos Aires. A large iron structure indoor hall now trendy with food stalls and coffee shops also happens to be easily reachable on foot for either lunch or dinner.
Head north from the hotel. Just a few blocks away is the colossal Avenida 9 de Julio, widest avenue in the world. From this corner there is a perfect view for photos of the famous Evita Perón mural on the Ministry of Social Development building. Iconic Café Tortoni can be visited by continuing along Avenue of May (Avenida de Mayo) about 5-7 minutes further , oldest cafe in city, churros and chocolate.
UADE (Universidad Argentina de la Empresa) is practically next door for the academic or business traveler, creating a safe student vibe during the day. The Congressional Plaza (Plaza del Congreso) to the west and the Plaza de Mayo with the Pink House/Casa Rosada to the east are both within walking distance of about fifteen to twenty minutes in either direction from the hotel. Its location also allows for a walk to Puerto Madero, though that would mean crossing over some major highways-it is about a twenty-five-minute walk- most people would much rather take a short cab ride there.
