Quick Tips
Argentina’s currency is a bit of a circus. Don’t use your foreign credit card for everything if you want to save money (though new exchange rates for tourists have improved). Bring cash (USD or Euro) and exchange it at a “Cueva” or Western Union to get the ‘Blue Rate,’ which can make your dining and shopping 30-50% cheaper than the official bank rate. Ask the front desk for the nearest safe Western Union branch.
Supermarket Stock-Up: Since you have a kitchenette, make use of it. There is a Coto or Carrefour Express supermarket usually within a 2-3 block radius. Buy big 5-liter water jugs, wine (which is incredibly cheap and good), and snacks. Compare that to hotel prices and see how much you are saving.
Safety Awareness: Safe by day, with all the UADE student traffic, Montserrat later becomes during the night hours toward the west streets a bit sketchy. Always walk lit avenues (Belgrano or 9 de Julio) instead of shortcuts through dark side streets. If you're coming in really late, have a cab drop you off at the door.
Adapter Plugs: Argentina uses an odd outlet type (Type I - looks like Australia/China but slightly different). Maybe the hotel has one of those new 'one size fits all' outlets, but just bring an adapter to be safe.
Rooftop Relaxation: The pool is small, but the solarium deck doubles as a great spot to chill after pounding the pavements. It's mostly deserted in the earlier parts of the day-leave your book or breakfast here and have some private time before confronting Buenos Aires' madness.
